As the travelling population continues to increase, governments, airlines and airports are required to adapt their processes to maintain the safety and the security of their operations on the ground and in the air. Passenger and travel facilitation are cornerstones to enable a faster, seamless passenger throughput, while enhancing security and improving airlines' customer experience and satisfaction.

Passenger facilitation is critical to sustainable aviation. We support the industry on a number of fronts:

Advocacy

IATA promotes measures that support easier movement of persons around the globe and that contribute to the global economy. To achieve this, we encourage states to remove travel restrictions and simplify border control processes while ensuring the integrity of borders and security. We engage with international organizations and states to shape facilitation policies and regulations that support a safe, secure and sustainable industry.

Passenger Standards

We maintain passenger data messaging standards which allow the interchange of Advance Passenger Information (API) and Passenger Name Records (PNR) data between airlines and governments. A number of recommended practices in the IATA Passenger Service Conference Resolutions Manual (PSCRM ) also support the handling and the process of passengers through the airport, including unaccompanied minors, passengers with disabilities, Automated Border Control: RP 1701l (pdf)

Innovation: One ID

IATA's One ID initiative aims to create a streamlined process that allows individuals to assert their identity, online or in person, while maintaining data privacy. The ePassport will be replaced by a digital form of identity to further streamline the end-to-end passenger experience. The use of biometric recognition is a backbone to the project. One ID will enable significant improvements to operational efficiency and security.

Training

Our training programs can be tailored to governments, airports or airlines' specific needs.
