Lufthansa, Aegean and Athens Airport - setting an example

On Wednesday, September 27th, we had the pleasure to present the Fast Travel Gold Status Award to Eleftherios Venizelos Airport, as well as to Aegean Airlines in Athens, Greece. Mr. Sergio Fernandez Airport, Passenger, Cargo and Security Europe Director, and Mr. George Mamalakis, Country Manager Greece and Cyprus had the honor to hand over the award.

In order to receive these awards, an airline/airport must have the necessary infrastructure to support all six Fast Travel projects designed to enhance passenger experience. These include:

The previous day, in Frankfurt, Germany, Mr. Mathias JAKOBI, our Area Manager for Central Europe, handed the Fast Travel Gold Platinum Status Award to Lufthansa at a ceremony at the Airline's headquarters, where we also organized an IATA event that day

IATA’s Fast Travel Program addresses passenger demands for more choice, convenience, and control through self-service options. The vision: by 2020, 80% of global passengers will be offered a complete range of self-service options throughout their journey to provide better convenience, reduce queues and ultimately improve punctuality. For more information on our Fast Travel program, please visit our Fast Travel page.

Many congratulations to Aegean Airlines and Athens Airport for achieving IATA Fast Travel Gold status, and to Lufthansa for the Platinum!

According to industry surveys, over half of all passengers want to reduce waiting times in their air travel experience, and around three quarters of passengers worldwide want more self-service options. This accomplishment crystallizes Athens Airport's, Aegean and Lufthansa's efforts to be at the forefront of the Industry by providing world-class services to its passengers. Let this be an example to other airports air airlines not just in Greece and Germany, but also in the rest of Europe!

It must also be noted that Aegean went from Green status to Gold in only two years (a real feat!), and we are really looking forward to seeing them accomplish Platinum level, hopefully in 2018.
