The Worldwide Airport Slot Guidelines (WASG) defines an airport slot as a permission given by a coordinator for a planned operation to use the full range of airport infrastructure necessary to arrive or depart at a Level 3 airport on a specific date and time.
Note: an airport slot is not an Air Traffic Control (ATC) slot.
What is airport coordination?
A process to maximize the efficient use of airport infrastructure when it can't meet demand, as described in the WASG.
Insufficient airport investment means there is a growing need for airport coordination procedures to smooth demand and maximize the use of available airport capacity.
Where is a slot required
It is necessary for all airlines and other aircraft operators to have a slot allocated by a coordinator to arrive or depart at a Level 3 airport.
