In IATA’s 5-day Aircraft De-icing Train the Trainer course, you will delve into the fundamentals of de-icing training, covering a range of topics and methodologies, culminating in the final practical training module. If you are an aspiring de-icing trainer, this course offers an optimal foundation to embark on your career. Meanwhile, if you are a seasoned de-icing trainer, you can utilize the program to bridge any knowledge gaps or further enhance your understanding of pertinent de-icing subjects. The fusion of theoretical knowledge with hands-on simulator exercises and real-world on-truck training, results in a distinctive and immersive learning encounter. This comprehensive training equips both aspiring and established instructors (DI-L40) as well as Heads of Training (DI-L70) with the means to deliver theoretical insights alongside practical expertise, satisfying the requirements outlined by SAE and airlines.

Course format

  • This classroom course provides 5 days (40 hours) of instruction delivered by an official IATA Instructor.
  • Student performance will be based on an assessment.

Prerequisites

  • We recommend that you already have experience in de-icing:
    • SAE DI-L20 De-icing Operator
    • SAE DI-L30 De-icing Supervisor
    • SAE DI-L40 De-icing Instructor
    • Access to SAE AS6286C
  • Recommended level is Intermediate and Advanced.
  • The recommended level of language proficiency is ICAO Operational Level 4 or the equivalent for courses held in languages other than English.

Course content

  • Theoretical training methods
  • Practical training methods
  • Training topics as per SAE Aerospace Standards (e.g., basics of aerodynamics, influence of contamination on aerodynamics, Clean Aircraft Concept, techniques of removal of frozen contamination etc.)

Activities

  • Practical teaching with de-icing vehicles and simulators
  • Theoretical classroom training
  • In depth review of the de-icing basics provided by SAE

Certificate awarded

An IATA Certificate of Completion is awarded to participants obtaining a grade of 80% or higher on an assessment. A special distinction is awarded to participants obtaining a grade of 90% or higher.
