Reservation:
Traveller begins the journey on his mobile phone. Logging on to the website of SimplyFlying Agency, Traveller books to fly with MyFavorite Airline to Transport City via Hub Airport. Payment is made on-line and Traveller receives an e-ticket message with his itinerary and record locator.
Boarding Pass and Seat Selection:
On the day of departure, Traveller logs on to MyFavorite Airline's website, inputs the e-ticket locator code and reviews the itinerary. Confirming a favorite seat, traveler prints a bar-coded boarding pass at home.
Baggage Check:
At the AirportExpress train station, Traveller proceeds to the baggage tagging kiosk. The kiosk reads the boarding pass, and confirms his identity by reconciling Traveller's face geometry with the secure biometric data stored in his passport. A radio frequency identified (RFID) baggage tag is issued, Traveller deposits his bag on the luggage belt and proceeds to the airport.
Departure Immigration:
Arriving at the airport, Traveller makes his way towards the gate lounge after security procedures. A kiosk controls entry to the lounge. Traveller places his passport and bar coded boarding pass in a reader and reconciled facial geometry to complete departure immigration procedures.
Re-routing:
In the lounge, Traveller learns that his flight has been cancelled due to bad weather. Shortly thereafter an e-mail message to his mobile phone informs him of his new itinerary via Alternative Airport. With a bar coded boarding pass, there is no need to change any documentation. Traveller replies to the message, selecting his new seat.
Boarding:
Using the same bar coded boarding pass, Traveller proceeds to the gate. One final swipe of his passport and facial geometry check and Traveller is greeted by friendly crew who offer a pre-departure drink—some things won't change.
Arrival and Baggage Re-claim:
A smooth journey and transit at Alternative Airport brings Traveller to Transport City. SimplyFlying Agency forwarded Traveller's entry immigration information in advance so Traveller proceeds to a kiosk to verify his identity and proceeds towards the luggage carousel. A baggage tracking system identifies the RFID baggage tag and sends an e-mail to his mobile phone informing him that his bag will be on the luggage carousel in 7 minutes. Traveller makes a quick trip to the duty free before collecting his bags and proceeding to the hotel.
The technology is ready—a new travel experience awaits us all.
