Managing Director and CEO, Malaysian Airlines

Idris is MD/CEO of Malaysia Airlines effective 1 December, 2005.  Previously, he was the Managing Director, Shell MDS (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd and Vice President, Shell Malaysia Gas & Power, based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.  Idris successfully led the business turnaround of Shell MDS, the first Gas-to-Liquids commercial plant in the world located in Bintulu.  Idris also led the team to win the bid to become the sole supplier of clean diesel fuel for Athens Olympic in 2004.  

Prior to that, Idris took on the role of Vice President, Retail Marketing in Shell Retail International based in London. He worked with the Global retail community in Shell to continually build a competitive retail business for profitable growth.  He also rolled out its Global Retail Strategy and Programme for Shell retail businesses around the world.  

In 2000, as the Vice President of Business Development Consultancy, Shell International Oil Products, based in London, his remit was to lead a high calibre global team to help the businesses in Oil Products deliver significant business results through strategic marketing and business improvement initiatives.  In 1998, Idris was the Managing Director and Country Chairman of Shell in Sri Lanka, where he helped in shaping the turnaround of Shell’s LPG business in Sri Lanka.

Prior to that, he held two retail positions in Shell Malaysia as Senior Manager, National Retail Sales and Retail Area Manager for Central Region.  He was involved in the business re-engineering (BR) work in Malaysia as Associate Manager in the BR Core Team. Idris’ early career in Shell was in HR, Sarawak Shell Berhad and also an assignment as HR Resource Planner, SIPM, Holland.  Idris has a Bachelor degree from Universiti Sains Malaysia and a Masters degree from Warwick University, United Kingdom.
