BERLIN AIRPORTS

On the way to becoming one of Europe’s top ten airports
In 2009 Passenger figures at Berlin Airports almost reached the record level of 2008, with nearly 21 million passengers taking off and landing in Berlin. Down only 2 per cent on 2008, Berlin Airports fares much better than the average international commercial airport in Germany. The unique mix of low-cost, charter and scheduled flights, combined with the extraordinarily strong pull of Berlin as an attractive destination for tourists and business travellers alike, makes Berlin Airports less susceptible to external crises. On a European scale Berlin ranks 15th. In 2009 Berlin served 166 destinations in more than 50 countries. With non-stop flights to New York, Bangkok, Phuket, Beijing and Doha, the range of long-haul flights offered is constantly improving.
Since September 2006 the stage is set for the future: In 2011 the European aviation market will be welcoming a strong new player in Berlin. From 2011, all air traffic will flow through the new Capital Airport Berlin Brandenburg International BBI.

IBM

The world is getting smaller and flatter. But the world is also becoming smarter. The infrastructures, systems, and processes that underpin how business and society function are becoming digitally aware, interconnected, and infused with intelligence.
The new intelligence applies to how services are delivered, to the movement of people, freight, money, information, electricity, and to how billions of people work and live. The possibilities include smarter travel, smarter financial systems, cargo, energy, food, and healthcare. Each represents a chance to do something better, more efficiently, and more productively.
This is a new frame of reference with enormous promise for economic growth and societal progress, with opportunities to think and act in new ways.
Let’s build a smarter planet.
