Panel discussion: Social Media & Air Transport

Social media has become a force for unprecedented reach, speed and democratization of communication. It is having a dramatic influence on customers, news, stakeholders and policy makers. In this panel, airlines and opinion influencers debated social media strategies and the role of the CEO and senior management.

Anita Mendiratta Moderator: Anita Mendiratta, Cachet Consulting
Founder and Managing Director of Cachet Consulting - a trusted and respected international consulting firm focused on Tourism and Economic Development. She is the author of  “COME CLOSER: How Tourism is Changing the Future of Nations”, regarded by Secretary-General UNWTO as “an invaluable resource for tourism leaders, policy-makers and stakeholders as they drive the global tourism economy forward.” Anita is also Lead Consultant of CNN T.A.S.K. Group, and a resource to the World Bank and UNWTO.
David Bowen

David Bowen, Company Director, Bowen Craggs & Co
David Bowen is the Company Director of Bowen Craggs & Co, and an expert in online communications. His company has worked for around 50 of the Fortune 500 corporations, and produces the annual Financial Times Bowen Craggs Index of Corporate Web Effectiveness. Bowen was industrial editor of the Independent on Sunday for seven years and was twice UK industrial journalist of the year. He still contributes regularly to the Financial Times.

Jim Hnat

Jim Hnat, EVP, Corporate Affairs & Chief Communications Officer, JetBlue Airways
Jim Hnat joined JetBlue Airways in 2001, and was named General Counsel in 2003. In 2007, he was named EVP–Corporate Affairs and oversees the company’s Corporate Communications; Government Affairs; Legal; Safety; and Security functions. Mr. Hnat also serves as Corporate Secretary. Mr. Hnat came to JetBlue after a career in aviation law practice, including airline defense litigation at Condon & Forsyth's. He is a member of the bar of New York and Massachusetts.

Azran Osman-Rani

Azran Osman-Rani, CEO, AirAsia X
Azran was appointed CEO of the world’s first truly low-cost long-haul airline in 2007. Prior to this, he led business development for Astro All Asia Networks, a digital satellite television and radio broadcaster, and was an Associate Partner of McKinsey. He holds degrees in Management Science and Electrical Engineering from Stanford University. Azran is also on the Board of Tourism Malaysia, plays competitive Ultimate Frisbee, is a keen surfer and snowboarder, and has completed ten full marathons in the last 2 years.

Martijn Van Der Zee

Martijn van der Zee,  SVP E-commerce, Air France/KLM 
After holding several positions within the Commercial Division of KLM,  Martijn van der Zee was appointed as VP Distribution & E-commerce in 2006. In 2008, his role was moved to the new joint commercial Air France/KLM organisation, and he became SVP E-commerce for the group. His current responsibilities include all Air France KLM’s strategies and policies concerning E-commerce to optimize all activities related to airfrance.com and klm.com (e-sales, e-services, e-acquisition, social media and mobile).

Ms Zhao Tian Tian Zhao, Deputy Editor-in-chief, Sina

Ms. Zhao graduated from China Foreign Affairs University, and got an MBA from Peking University in 2004. She joined Sina (the biggest website in China) in 2000. She served as Director of Information Centre, Director of Wireless Product, and was also in charge of Sina.cn, the WAP site of Sina.com. As an expert in online media and mobile media, she was promoted deputy chief editor in 2005. She's been responsible for the operation of micro-blog, video and related business since 2012.
