From today’s promises to 2050 delivery

The spirit of cross-industry collaboration, which is the key to the aviation industry earning its licence to grow, has become stronger than ever. While the anticipated adoption by the ICAO Assembly of an historic agreement in 2016 to implement a mandatory carbon offsetting scheme to address aviation’s CO2 emissions is significant, it is only one part of the industry’s long term approach to climate change.

This panel explored what needs to be achieved for the industry to reach its long term goal to address its climate change impact. That discussion was closely tied to the industry’s stated 2050 goal to reduce CO2 emissions by 50% compared with 2005 levels. The panel focused on the social and economic benefits which aviation delivers to the planet as a force for good and where it can play a leadership role in providing a sustainable economic and environmental future.
