WELCOME TO THE STB E-NEWSLETTER

This month:

ET Countdown

With less than 100 days to the ET deadline, airlines are concentrating on finishing their ET projects. They are taking advantage of the extended deadline until 31st May 2008 to overcome obstacles and implement new IET agreements with their interline partners. Currently ET use for interline traffic is at 76%.

The primary challenge now is ground handling. Many airlines have not yet implemented a solution for their ground handler to check in passengers with e-tickets. Airlines need to find immediate alternatives rather than waiting for their ground handler or DCS provider to develop the ideal solution. For more details, view the interactive map on ET Airport Readiness.

Airlines also need to think about alternative ticketing methods for those tickets that agents will not be able to issue as ETs from 1st of June 2008. Alternatives include placing their own airline tickets in travel agencies or, more likely, having agents issue Multi Purpose Documents (MPDs) or virtual MPDs.

Airlines and travel agents using IATA BSPs should have received information regarding these issues. If you have not received this information request it by clicking on the following links:

BCBP Matchmaker

To help airlines and airports match their BCBP implementation plans, IATA is pleased to announce the launch of the BCBP Matchmaker. The BCBP Matchmaker is a free and automated service which allows airlines and airports to send each other requests for implementation dates.

  • Airlines can identify airports with BCBP capability where they could implement BCBP and contact them to request a BCBP implementation date.
  • Airports can better coordinate the implementation of BCBP and ensure their new equipment is used by all BCBP capable airlines.
