WELCOME TO THE STB E-NEWSLETTER

This month:

Removing paper from air cargo

Three weeks since the launch of the six pilots, IATA can report a very smooth run for shipments from all live origins and to all live destinations, and on all forwarders and airlines.

For less than 20% of the shipments, some deviations to the agreed e-freight operating procedures (e-FOP) have been reported, but did not prevent the freight from being forwarded as planned. The aim is to iron out these initial operational occurrences, learn from them, and if necessary, amend the e-FOP where required. The participants are also starting to prepare to gradually increase the scalability of e-freight processes in 2008. These steps will include:

  • Full removal of the AWB paper
  • Further work on standards for some of the documents in scope
  • Expansion of the shipments in scope ie.allowing trans-shipments and transit freight and increasing the number of participating airports within current e-freight pilot locations

The next e-freight Pilot Central Action Group (PCAG) meeting to take place in January 2008 in Vancouver will decide on these next steps. Read more about the pilots here.

Reliability of electronic messages: MIP

Since July 2007, the IATA e-freight team has been analysing the accuracy and penetration of electronic data of carriers and forwarders participating in MIP. So far, only 46% of all shipments are covered by e-Air waybills as reported by 17 major carriers.

IATA is also pushing to increase the coverage and quality of e-AWBs by reducing the number of duplicate messages and the number of common errors, which account for substantial costs in communications and correction for both Airlines and Forwarders.

Reports detailing the overall penetration and accuracy of FWB and FHL messages for the industry are now available on the MIP page. Participating airlines can now access dedicated reports in their airline StB Extranet Page. If your airline is not participating, find out how to start participating today!

IATA's role: Facilitating dialogue

On November 14th, the first MIP workshop was held in Geneva. Among the participants were 5 Airlines, 3 Agents, 1 CCS, as well a representatives from Cargo 2000 and IATA. The workshop served as forum to address issues of no coverage, duplicate messages and frequent errors and get the relevant stakeholders to agree to a plan of action to resolve these. More information on 2008 MIP workshops coming soon!

Successful CUSS implementations around the world

The recent StB Airport Campaign engaged all CUSS live airports to obtain specific information about their CUSS implementation including:

  • Date CUSS was first installed
  • Kiosk vendor
  • Number of airlines currently using the kiosks
  • Charges
  • SLAs
  • Bag drop availability, and more.

Download the report for the details of the information collected. Additionally, you can also view this information through a newly revamped CUSS Interactive Map which will allow you to select an airport, view basic information and obtain access to a detailed report. For more information on the features of the new map read the following story.

Useful postings on the StB Support Portal: Interactive Maps!

We are very pleased to present a series of Interactive Maps using Google Maps offering useful information by airport to track ET, BCBP and CUSS implementation around the world.

The three maps cover more than 1000 airports and will be updated on a monthly basis to provide the industry with the latest view of airport progress.
