WELCOME TO THE STB E-NEWSLETTER

This month:

ET Countdown

Only 61 days to the end of paper tickets! Global ET penetration increased slightly to 93% in February as airlines in all regions continue to move forward to meet the 31 May 2008 deadline. Airlines are also continuing progress in implementing Interline ET agreements, which now total over 3,000. Detailed figures are available in the project update.

IATA e-freight Message Improvement Programme (MIP)

The IATA e-freight Message Improvement Programme (MIP) to measure quality and performance of electronic messaging within the cargo industry is being used since August 2007 in the six pilot locations. In January (maintained also in February) penetration of cargo covered by electronic messaging saw an all time high with 96% in the pilot locations.

Quality, that is the percentage of perfect messages with no errors or duplicates, also increased significantly since launch from 12% to 60%, due to the actions taken by airlines and freight forwarders, based on shared information.

To get an easy introduction to MIP and have an overview of the most common problems in electronic messaging, read the EDI MIP Handbook.

IATA shipper survey results

In February, IATA conducted a survey among 36 decision-makers in logistics with following results for IATA e-freight:

  • 36% have no idea about the initiative. However, 38% rate their awareness good or at least fair.
  • The majority of respondents judges IATA e-freight relevant to their business in terms of cost, speed and reliability.
  • The two most important issues that E-freight must address to increase its relevance to the industry are:
    • With 61%, standardized documentation across the supply chain (shippers, carriers, providers, airport/port authorities etc.)
    • With 28%, adoption of technology across the supply chain
  • On the question how they wish to engage in IATA e-freight, 53% answered that they would like further education and 19% opted for a participation in pilots/ developments.
