Successful Cargo Claims and Loss Prevention conference in Geneva

The third IATA Cargo Claims and Loss Prevention conference took place in Geneva from 25-27 September 2007. It was chaired by Ajay Pande, Manager, Cargo Agency Policy and was attended by approximately 90 delegates including airline claims professionals, lawyers, loss adjusters, surveyors, insurers and freight forwarders from all over the world.

Eminent personalities from the air cargo supply chain – such as Oliver Evans, Chief Cargo Officer of Swiss International Airlines; Stefan Kühn, Chief Operating Officer of Via Mat Group; Dr. Patrick Simek, Head of International Transportation Network, Swiss Post; Frans Vonk, Director, Expertisebureau Binnendijk-Bree BV – and a host of experienced airline claims managers addressed the issues facing the air cargo claims industry. The office-bearers of the World Organisation of Funeral Operatives (FIAT-IFTA) also addressed the conference on the issue of claims involving air transportation of human remains.

Various initiatives to simplify and speed up the air cargo claims process were presented. Liability limits under various conventions, and their interpretation and practical application were actively discussed and debated. The interactive nature of this conference allowed the delegates to seek advice on difficult claims cases from experienced panel members and expert lawyers, and provided an excellent opportunity to get to know colleagues in this specialist field.

The conference was extremely popular, with near complete attendance on all three days and all delegates participating very actively.  The next conference is scheduled to take place from 23-25 September 2008.
