Inflight Services


IATA Inflight Services aims to improve safety, quality and cost-effectiveness of inflight services for the benefit of Member airlines, partners and passengers.  

How is this achieved?

  • By developing and promoting Recommended Practices for the Industry, through Work Groups and Task Forces.
  • By organising conferences, forums and workshops to bring together a broad group of experts and stakeholders interested in improving Inflight Services.
  • By offering tangible solutions to Member airlines, such as the IATA Catering Quality Assurance (ICQA) programme and consulting services.

Areas of expertise

  • Cabin Safety
    • Contribute to the reduction of incidents/accidents and costs to airlines associated with the safe operation of commercial passenger aircraft.
    • Areas: Standard Operating Procedures, Safety Equipment, Emergency Procedures, Cabin Security, Dangerous Goods, Cabin Crew Training, etc.
  • Cabin Health
    • Contribute to an efficient and cost effective approach to handling medical issues on board commercial passenger aircraft.
    • Areas: Duty time limitations, Transmission of communicable diseases, Disinsection, etc.
  • Inflght Catering
    • Contribute to improvements in the quality and cost-effectiveness of inflight catering for the benefit of Member airlines, partners and passengers.
    • Areas: IATA Catering Quality Assurance (ICQA) programme, Inflight RFID, IATA special meals, Standard catering services agreement, etc.
  • Cabin Operations
    • Contribute to an efficient and cost effective approach to cabin crew management and cabin management.
    • Areas: Cabin crew performance, irregular operations handling, service irrgularities handling, cabin systems, etc.

Work Groups and Task Forces

  • The IATA Cabin Safety Work Group (CSWG) reviews all aspects of cabin operations to improve safety and operational efficiency
  • The ICQA Council and ICQA Technical Committee oversee the  IATA Catering Quality Assurance (ICQA) programme
  • The IOSA Cabin and First Aid Standards reviews and updates IOSA Standards on Cabin Crew Operations, Cabin Crew Training and First Aid
  • The Inflight RFID Task Force is currently assessing the use of RFID technology for trolley tracking, maintenance and content management
