News Brief: Smithsonian National Air Space Museum and IATA Sign Cooperation Agreement to Preserve History of Aviation in Latin America

Washington - The Smithsonian National Air Space Museum and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to work together to preserve the history of Latin American aviation online in the Great Latin American Aviation Portal.

The MOA was signed by General John R. Dailey, Director of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum and Giovanni Bisignani, IATA's Director General and CEO in Washington on Monday 28 March 2011. Along with consolidating the cooperation between IATA and the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, it will facilitate cooperation among aviation museums, aeronautical institutions, airlines and aircraft manufacturers across Latin America.

The goal of the Great Latin American Aviation Portal is to become the premiere online resource for the history of Latin American aviation. It will also serve as a reminder of the significant social and economic benefits that aviation has brought to the continent.

The Great Latin American Aviation Portal will be launched at the next IATA Annual General Meeting to be held in Singapore on 5-7 June.
