Fuel Conservation
IATA Consulting’s Fuel Conservation service helps airlines to implement best practices for aviation fuel procurement and management.
Through the Fuel Efficiency Gap Analysis (FEGA), we help you uncover potential fuel-saving opportunities within your operational infrastructure. With priorities set, we then support quick and effective implementation of the solutions identified. The aim is to create a defined process for ongoing improvement that extends beyond the initial project.
Focus areas
Hidden savings uncovered through FEGA evaluations are estimated at 2-15% of an individual airline’s total fuel budget. Improvements can be made quickly in three key areas:
- Flight Operations - accounts for approximately 43% of total savings
- Flight Dispatch - represents 37% of total savings on average
- Maintenance & Engineering - typically 20% of total savings
See Fuel Conservation brochure for service details.
ROI potential
Common ROI is 30:1 and more. Recently, one airline achieved complete ROI within 12 days of programme implementation.
Timeline
Less than 90 days! A typical project follows this example:

- 1st Implementation visit - 10 days on-site with the client
- 2nd Implementation visit - 10 days on-site with the client
- 3rd Implementation visit - 5 to 10 days on-site with the client, depending on size of operation
