In Brief

Benefits of Aviation

  • In support of the 2012 Industry Priority to drive an aggressive, broad-based and sustained advocacy campaign to improve perceptions and understanding of the role of aviation in economic and global competitiveness, we are utilizing the Benefits of Aviation reports for 58 individual countries (with which 21 active country campaigns have already been launched) together with the recently published ATAG report “Aviation Benefits Beyond Borders” that provides key economic facts on global aviation.
  • In parallel, an “Air Cargo Makes It Happen” campaign was launched during the World Cargo Symposium in Kuala Lumpur in early March.

Safety Stats

  • The 2011 global accident rate (measured in hull losses per million flights of Western-built jets) was 0.37, the equivalent of one accident every 2.7 million flights.
  • This represented a 39% improvement compared to 2010, when the accident rate was 0.61, or one accident for every 1.6 million flights, and is the lowest accident rate in aviation history.
