Environment: Post-AGM Action
The adoption of the Resolution on CNG2020 at the 69th AGM marked the culmination of many months of hard work.
It was also the starting point for a broad advocacy campaign towards the 38th ICAO Assembly. The successful outcome in Cape Town was immediately followed by presentations of the IATA Resolution to the ICAO Council and EU Climate Commissioner Hedegaard in Montreal and Brussels, receiving positive reactions all around. The Resolution was also presented to ECAC in Paris to align the 42 ECAC states in their position for the ICAO Assembly.
The AGM Resolution was subsequently used as the basis for drafting a common industry paper on addressing CO2 emissions from aviation, with input and full support from airports (ACI), air navigation service providers (CANSO), manufacturers (ICCAIA) and business operators (IBAC).
This joint industry paper has now been submitted to ICAO and lobbying materials have been prepared to support global advocacy efforts through IATA channels. Our key stakeholders across the industry will also be involved in this, including IATA Board members themselves.
