The NDC project is making progress on all fronts. The standard development, supported by participants across the air travel distribution value chain, achieved a milestone with the production of the IATA XML shopping messages.
On the engagement side, travel management companies find in NDC some opportunities to gain in productivity when handling ancillaries; corporate travel managers, who include ancillaries in their travel policy, see in NDC some opportunities for better shopping and reporting. And on the regulatory front, NDC is still pending DOT approval.
On 29-31 October at the World Passenger Symposium in Dublin, we expect to showcase the first NDC pilots. The WPS program will include two streams: one for distribution and merchandizing; and one for the passenger ground experience. Various panels will debate the benefits of NDC and the challenges to adoption, with the airlines, agents, travel buyers, GDS and IT providers represented at WPS 2013.
