Safety

The IATA Global Safety Information Exchange brings the International Civil Aviation Organization, the US Department of Transportation and the Commission of the European Union together to create a comprehensive global information exchange to improve safety.

The importance of data and information sharing was emphasized during the safety panel session. IATA also emphasized that information through this initiative should be used to assist Regulatory Impact Assessments and focus on predictive analysis.

In the same area of safety data and metrics, it was also recognized that development and implementation of harmonized metrics for Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) is needed.  Results of analysis must also be shared between ANSPs and operators. The Global Safety Information Center (GSIC) - The IATA Safety Trend Evaluation, Analysis & Data Exchange System (STEADES) collects and analyzes air safety reports from over 125 operators worldwide and is already working closely with Eurocontrol, making it an ideal platform to share analysis with ANSPs worldwide for comparative analysis and benchmarking.  Airlines and ANSPs wishing to support this initiative should contact GSIC@iata.org
