Passenger Facilitation, delivering results



Twenty airports visited so far to improve waiting times and queues at the security checkpoint, have now started to implement recommendations.

A total of seven airports have already reached the green status by implementing at least one recommendation. These airports are:

  • Lima International Airport Jorge Chávez, Peru
  • Chubu Centrair International Airport, Nagoya, Japan
  • Punta Cana International Airport, Dominican Republic
  • Piarco International Airport, Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago
  • Kansai International Airport, Osaka, Japan
  • Rome  Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino Airport, Italy
  • Venice Marco Polo Airport, Italy

Kansai International Airport has a unique feature, being one of the few 24 hours operated airports worldwide. Its 3,500 to 4,000 meters’ runway can accommodate all types of aircrafts.

The airport is located offshore along the coast of Osaka Bay as an environmental consideration to the area. Along with Itami Airport, in Osaka area, it can be considered as the international gateway for the entire Kansai region, which is the second largest economic area in Japan. The airport is renowned for its excellent customer service and convenient facilities for travelers coming in and out of Kansai. Both Kansai International and Itami Airport together have the capability to connect domestic and international passengers. 


Mr. Yano, Manager, Aviation & Airport Security, Safety Promotion Office in Kansai Airport stated: “We are very pleased about the IATA Passenger Facilitation diagnosis. It confirmed that Kansai airport has one of the most efficient checkpoints in the world. However it has been noted that to improve the Passenger Experience it is recommended to offer more self-service options. Kansai Airport is looking into the feasibility of these services that will benefit the customers and aim to develop infrastructure to meet IATA Fast Travel Program".
