Resolution 302, the new market oriented carrier based baggage rules, came into force on 1 April 2011. The Board mandated IATA last year to support the industry in automating baggage rules by 1 April 2011 and the Airline Tariff Publishing Company (ATPCO) developed the centralized database.
Amadeus was the first major GDS to go live at the end of April for 16 airlines that had completed the early implementation process. This number is now at 40 airlines. Amadeus global rollout is scheduled for 30 June 2011. However, early activation is available upon request to allow airlines to complete the ATPCO data filing process.
Several IT providers went live by the 1 April deadline: Datalex, Hewlett-Packard (with HP fares and HP axsRes) and SITA. View the ABR status of all system providers on our website.
ATPCO and IATA’s ABR Project Team continue to work with the industry to ensure expansion of baggage automation as per Resolution 302 and rapidly close the remaining gaps.
