IATA members reaffirm their support to NDC
The evolution of New Distribution Capability (NDC) was very well supported during the last IATA Annual General Meeting (AGM) which took place in Cape Town early June.
IATA members unanimously adopted a resolution reaffirming their support to the initiative. They endorsed the fact that NDC’s enhanced online shopping experience will benefit consumers thanks to the ability to compare and transact airline offers in a more transparent fashion: Better comparison shopping; richer content for travel agents.
The resolution also affirmed that NDC will support current aviation shopping methods, including the ability for consumers to compare base fares without identifying themselves. The AGM resolution noted that consumers will be protected by data privacy protection laws and regulations regardless of how and where they choose to purchase air travel. A demonstration of what NDC will enable for an online travel agent was also presented from a dedicated booth. Hundreds of visitors including airline CEOs, delegations, vendors and journalists visited the stand and provided positive feedback. A presentation for the media was also well attended. Main questions were focused on the pilots’ status, on barriers to adoption and on regulatory aspects.
On other NDC news, IATA filed the response to the comments received by the US Department of Transportation (DOT) on the filing of Resolution 787. For further information, please read IATA's reply to comments submitted to DOT (pdf).
