Rejection memo with reason code 99
Hi
This is with reference to SFI 35 (Cargo rejection memo record).
When raising a rejection memo with a reason code of 99, the awb breakdown is not mandatory. Also, the billing memo number (element 17) is conditional and should be filled in only when the rejection is against a billing memo.
If a billing entity raises an RM with a reason code of 99, does not populate element 17 and does not provide the awb breakdown, will such an RM pass validation by SIS?
(a) If it does, will the billed entity be able to view this RM with any sort of audit trail on IS-WEB i.e. how will the billed entity know which document is being rejected?
(b) If it does not pass validation, can we assume that for a rejection memo with reason code 99, either the billing memo number should be populated or the awb breakdown must be provided?

Hi Shanti, Sorry about the long delay. Regarding your question, yes – this will pass validation. For reason code 99 the system will not check whether a breakdown is provided or not. If no breakdown is provided it will obviously not show in the audit trail. Carriers are supposed to use this reason code only for exceptional circumstances and mostly in cases where they do not have an AWB number to link. This reason code should not be used for normal AWB rejections as this may lead to further re-rejections as the other carrier will not have enough information to process the rejection.
