IATA's action plan

• Confirm business case with airlines and examine strategies for maximising return on a transition to RFID for baggage
• Support ongoing trials for RFID
• Define the way RFID can be used in various aviation applications, developing business views of benefits and setting up standards as appropriate.

Starting with Baggage activities, IATA has extended the scope of RFID activities to various aviation applications:

Strategy & Management

To support these activities IATA

• Defines standards and recommended practices 
• Is involved in the definition and participation of trials & pilots to measure performances and to develop implementation guides
• Signs Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with stakeholders
• Involves vendors and service providers through the StB Preferred Partners programme 
• Leads costs / benefit analysis and Business Cases
• Provides consultancy services
