IATA Cargo Advanced Rating and Marketing for the Leadership & Management Training Program

What you will learn

Upon completing this course you will have the skills to:

  • Apply advanced construction and combination principles for unpublished rates.
  • Calculate appropriate rates and charges for mixed consignments,  Unit Load Devices (ULDs) and complete Air Waybills.
  • Describe pricing strategies and why and how they are used.
  • Describe the factors involved in setting an advertising budget and selecting advertising media and blend elements of social media into a marketing/advertising plan.

  • Review of basic cargo rating principles and currency regulations as conversion rates, rounding off procedures and construction rates.
  • Combination of rates and charges, mixed consignments, declaration of the goods  and Air Waybill completion.
  • Identifying the needs of the shipper and the consignee and developing an efficient and reliable transportation system that can be sold at an attractive price.
  • Appling both traditional advertising and advertising in the digital world, creation of effective marketing plan and identifing target groups as it relates to the airfreight industry.

Certificate awarded

An IATA Certificate of Completion is awarded to participants obtaining a grade of 60% or higher on all exercises and exams. A special distinction is awarded to participants obtaining a grade of 90% or higher.

HMM Validity Period and Module Duration

Upon enrolment, you will receive access to over 40 HMM modules, valid for 8 months. You may complete as many modules as you wish within the 8-month period.  Each module is 2-4 hours in duration.

  • Selection by role: First-Time Manager, Mid-Level Manager, Senior Manager

Module Content

The content is divided into 44 modules (pdf), each covering an essential management topic.

Topics are also supported with video insights from leaders and experts, Harvard Business School case studies, Harvard Business Review articles, templates, discussion outlines and other resources to enhance the learning experience.

HMM Certificate of Completion

A certificate of completion is awarded at the end of each HMM module to students who achieve a grade of 70% and have viewed 70% of the module content. Certificates may be printed directly from your personal printer.


The IATA exam is based only on the IATA course content. The IATA examination procedures remain unchanged.
