5-day (40 hours) classroom course

This course prepares you to identify potential issues with removing immobilized or disabled aircraft in a timely manner. The course content is based on the IATA Aircraft Recovery Task Force (ARTF) syllabus for theoretical training and ICAO Airport Services Manual Doc 9137 Part 5 Removal of Disabled Aircraft. This course follows the general format of ATA e-Business iSpec 2200.

Course format

• This classroom course provides 5 days (40 hours) of instruction delivered by an official IATA Instructor.
• Take this course at an IATA Training Center, Regional Training Partner, or on-demand as in-house training.
• Student performance will be based on an assessment.

Prerequisites

• It is recommended (though not essential) that participants have a basic aircraft engineering and/or airport operations knowledge.
• Recommended level is Intermediate.
• The recommended level of language proficiency is ICAO Operational Level 4 for courses in English or the equivalent level for other languages.

Upon completing this course you will have the skills to:

• Recognize the responsibilities of the Airport and the Airline operators including related documentation
• Describe the elements of the pre-recovery survey and recovery preparation
• Identify, remove and mitigate health and safety, and environmental risks
• Calculate aircraft recovery weight and center of gravity, and identify weight reduction methods
• Identify the various recovery scenarios and select the correct recovery equipment for leveling, lifting and moving an aircraft
• Establish detailed plans using the Aircraft Recovery Manual to effect safe lifts and moves
• Develop an end-to-end plan to remove immobilized or disabled aircraft in an efficient and timely manner

• Responsibilities and best practices for the removal of disabled aircraft
• Health and Safety and Environmental Hazards associated with recovery operations
• Duties and responsibilities of Recovery Manager and recovery personnel
• Categories of recovery events and recovery equipment selection
• Effective use of the Aircraft Recovery Manual
• Detailed recovery plan including all supporting processes

An IATA Certificate of Completion is awarded to participants obtaining a grade of 70% or higher on all exercises and exams. A special distinction is awarded to participants obtaining a grade of 90% or higher.
