Research indicates that people learn best by doing — this also applies to Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) training programs.

The challenge for those who design and deliver Dangerous Goods Training is how to overcome the technical nature of the subject and incorporate active learning into their training design and delivery. This course focuses on techniques and strategies to: plan a robust Dangerous Goods training program; open a training session; impart learning through active learning; sequence learning activities to ensure an effective mix and flow; and, conclude a training session with an emphasis on knowledge transfer — applying the learning back on the job.

Participants will learn and practice a variety of core techniques to lead adult learning, instructional design and facilitation techniques. In addition, ample opportunity will be available to apply these techniques and strategies during the course.

Prerequisites: Participant should hold a valid DGR certificate for category 6 at the time of registration and:

• have at least 5 years working knowledge and experience in hazardous materials and safety operations or cargo operations
• speak, write and understand English at a functional level

An IATA Certificate of Completion is awarded to participants obtaining a grade of 80% or higher on all exercises and exams. A special distinction is awarded to participants obtaining a grade of 90% or higher.

A mandatory Dangerous Goods Regulations exam will be given to assess technical competence on category 6
