IATA Cargo Introductory Course with Harvard ManageMentor

Develop your cargo career by learning the fundamentals of cargo skills and procedures with IATA and Harvard ManageMentor.

What you will learn

Upon completing this course you will have the skills to:

  • Identify air cargo terms and expressions
  • Control and maximize the use of space in aircraft holds
  • Understand aircraft routings and industry manuals such as TACT and OAG World Airways Guides
  • Apply basic rating principles and state and operator variation
  • Follow IATA standards to accept cargo and complete documents and improve customer service

Duration: 160-200 hours for course plus 3.5 hours for exam

Upon enrollment, you will receive access to over 40 HMM modules, valid for 8 months. You may complete as many modules as you wish within the 8-month period. Each module is 2-4 hours in duration. 

The  Harvard ManageMentor® platform is used of more than five million professionals  worldwide. Organized into blended-learning modules, HMM covers a variety of business topics, incorporating audio, video, case studies, activities, animations, articles, and a multitude of additional tools and worksheets.

Harvard ManageMentor (HMM) incorporates state-of-the-art, media-rich content furnished by Harvard Business School faculty, global business leaders and practitioners in the field of leadership development. It is a valuable online reference that companies around the world trust to help boost individual and corporate performance by helping you handle the small and large Management & Leadership issues you may face.

Upon enrollment, you will receive access to over 40 modules, valid for 8 months; however, you are only required to successfully complete 10 modules. Each module is 2-4 hours long. You can select topics that better reflect your training and development criteria:

  • HMM Validity Period and Module Duration Topics have been intuitively arranged for your benefit
    • Selection by category: Managing Yourself, Managing Others, Managing the Business
    • Selection by role: First-Time Manager, Mid-Level Manager, Senior Manager

Module Content

The content is divided into 44 modules (pdf), each covering an essential management topic. Topics are supported with video insights from leaders and experts, Harvard Business School case studies, Harvard Business Review articles, templates, discussion outlines and other resources to enhance the learning experience.


The IATA exam is based only on the IATA course content. Examination procedures remain unchanged.

HMM modules are available in English (v11), Spanish and Mandarin (v10). A certificate of completion is awarded at the end of each HMM module to students who pass with 70% and have viewed 70% of the module content.

Certificate awarded

An IATA Certificate of Completion is awarded to participants obtaining a grade of 60% or higher on all exercises and exams. A special distinction is awarded to participants obtaining a grade of 90% or higher.
