IATA 3PL Code

Providing Global Recognition to Logistics Providers

The new 3PL Code is designed for logistics companies who wish to be uniquely identified and recognized by the cargo industry. The assignment of a unique IATA logistics document code fills the gap for companies that do not qualify for an IATA three numeric airline prefix code.

Who is it for:

The 3PL code can be used to identify any company who issues cargo transport documents:

  • Trucking companies
  • Freight forwarders
  • GSAs
  • Independent logistics providers
  • Airlines who do not qualify for a three numeric airline prefix code

The Third-Party Logistics (“3PL”) code is three characters (combination of one alphabet and two numerics).  It is not possible for the 3PL code to be three alphas or three numerics.

Criteria and Application

The criteria for application and terms of conditions are as specified in the 3PL Code Application form.

Promoting the 3PL Code

IATA’s global network of cargo offices is promoting the 3PL code to companies who do not qualify for a three numeric airline prefix code but who wish to be industry identified.
