e-freight

E-freight aims to take the paper out of the air cargo supply chain and replace it with cheaper, more accurate and more reliable electronic messaging. Facilitated by IATA, the project is an industry-wide initiative involving carriers, freight forwarders, ground handlers, shippers and customs authorities.

Each air cargo shipment carries with it as many as 30 paper documents – enough to fill 80 Boeing 747 freighters every year.

IATA targets 2012:

  • Achieve 15% eAWB penetration
  • Continue to expand the available e-freight 'route network'
  • Validate the roadmap to 100% e-freight with Global Air Cargo Advisory Group (GACAG)

Key benefits include:

  • Lower costs: eliminates paper handling and processing costs
  • Faster service: a reduced cycle time of an average of 24 hours
  • Greater reliability and accuracy: one-time electronic data entry at point of origin
  • Better visibility: electronic documentations allows for online track and trace functionality
NEW! Case Studies: see how the key benefits become reality across the supply chain.
