There are early indications that air cargo is slowly starting to bounce back! After five months of demand dropping by over 20% from the previous year, May 2009 showed a relative improvement to -17.4%, as shippers begin to replenish their inventories in anticipation of recovery. However, irrespective of prospect for improvement in demand, the key issue for the industry remains one of significant yield decline.
During the IATA World Cargo Symposium held earlier this year in Bangkok, the industry agreed on the following industry priorities:
- Protect the Cash – Cargo Account Settlement Systems (CASS): Expansion, Quality, and Cash Flow
- Drive Simplicity and Efficiency – e-freight
- Deliver Quality Product Reliability – Cargo 2000/Cargo Network Services (CNS)
- Keep the Shipments Secure – Secure Freight
This issue of Cargo Tracker gives you an update on the progress we are making in delivering each of these critical industry priorities.
This issue also highlights the program for our next IATA World Cargo Symposium, to be held 8-11 March 2009 in Vancouver. The theme of the 2010 edition is: “Bounce Back – Rebuild the Future.” Please block this time in your diary now!
