IATA Settlement Systems

The worldwide network of IATA Settlement Systems, spanning over 160 countries and territories, provide cost-effective settlement services to airline, agent and third-party customers. They include the Billing and Settlement Plans (BSP), and the Cargo Accounts Settlement System (CASS) on the cargo side, offering:

  • Standardized procedures and outputs
  • Automated data flows and information exchange
  • Reduced distribution and settlement costs
  • System neutrality between airlines and agents

In 2011, the IATA Settlement Systems processed sales amounting to US$282 billion to airlines through:

  • Billing and Settlement Plans (BSP):  at the close of 2011, there were 88 BSPs, covering 176 countries and territories serving 400 airlines. Gross sales processed in 2011 amounted to US$ 249 billion.
  • IATA BSP Consolidator System (IBCS): an alternative for airlines in marginal markets
  • Cargo Accounts Settlement System (CASS): at the end of 2011, CASS had 84 export operations, 14 import operations, 4 domestic operations and one courier operation, collectively serving over 500 airlines, GSSAs and ground handlers and settling a combined US$33 billion.
  • Simplified Interline Settlement (SIS) facilitates interline billing and removes paper from the process.
  • e-Invoicing replaces paper invoices with electronic invoices. The only electronic invoicing solution dedicated to the airline industry.
  • The IATA Clearing House (ICH) is an electronic billing and settlement service between airlines and suppliers.
  • Complementing the Billing and Settlement Plan (BSP), the Travel Industry Exchange Settlement Solution (TIESS) is an electronic billing and settlement solution between airlines, non accredited travel agents and other travel suppliers.
  • The Prorate Agency maintains the passenger and cargo prorate agreements on behalf of airlines signatory to the Prorate Agency Agreement (PAA).
