Baggage Services

IATA provides services in the areas of resolutions and recommendations, which form the standards for how baggage is processed. Our baggage standards are developed by the Baggage Working Group whose members are representatives from airlines, airports, ground handlers and industry suppliers.

IATA’s Baggage Services is tasked to help improve baggage operations through expert advice and consultancy services. These services are driven through the IATA Baggage Improvement Program (BIP), which provides both dedicated site visits to airports and self-help materials to assist in identifying the causes of mishandling and recommending solutions to improve performance and reduce costs.

IATA and SITA have developed an online repository, the WorldTracer Distribution Network (WTDN), to simplify the distribution of SITA WorldTracer documentation and manuals. WTDN allows SITA WorldTracer users quick and easy access to latest baggage related documentation. The tool is offered as part of BIP. For more information visit the WTDN website, www.wtdn.aero.

99% of travelers and bags arrive at their destination together. To make sure you are not in the 1% of passengers who suffer a slight delay, please consult our passenger portal.
