To support the airline industry’s scheduling activities, IATA’s Scheduling services encompass 5 core functions:
- Development and management of the industry standards for the Scheduling Process in consultation with IATA Member airlines and airport coordinators and the publication of the IATA Worldwide Scheduling Guidelines (WSG),
- Organisation of the semi-annual IATA Schedules Conference,
- Liaison with government agencies on the interpretation of local rules that affect the slot allocation process,
- Participation in relevant Industry Committees/Workgroups related to Scheduling Standards and Processes, Daylight Saving Time (DST) and Minimum Connecting Time (MCT), and
- Distribution of data and analytical Solutions related to airline schedules.
The Scheduling Process
The Scheduling process governs the allocation and exchange of slots at congested airports worldwide, on a fair, transparent and non-discriminatory basis. In consultation with the airline and airport coordinator communities, IATA manages and publishes the industry standards in the Worldwide Scheduling Guidelines (WSG) intended to provide guidance on managing the allocation of slots at airports.
Airport Coordination
The Schedules Conference (a.k.a. Slots Conference)
The semi-annual Schedules Conference (SC) allows airlines and coordinators to meet face-to-face to review their slot portfolio and finalise their future schedules.
Committees/Workgroups
Scheduling Services is involved with various committees and workgroups that meet on a regular basis to improve Scheduling standards.
Solutions
In collaboration with Innovata, IATA markets several data solutions under the Schedule Reference Service (SRS) brand. SRS data is also part of other IATA solutions such as PaxIS, AirportIS or TACT.
Scheduling Services also contributes to the Standard Schedules Information Manual (SSIM), which includes the coding standards for airline schedules, reference tables for aircraft types, passenger terminal indicators, UTC and DST information.
IATA Consulting Services can support your organisation at the strategic, operational and technical levels in the areas of slot management, scheduling and network. IATA Business Intelligence Services (BIS) can produce custom reports and analysis based on airline schedules.
Strategic Partners
Companies and organisations interested in participating in IATA’s activities related to Scheduling are invited to join the IATA Strategic Partnerships.
