Worldwide Airport Slots

To support the airline industrys airport slot management activities, IATAs Worldwide Airport Slots department encompass 4 core functions:

  • Development and management of the industry standards for the scheduling process in consultation with IATA Member airlines and airport coordinators and the publication of  the IATA Worldwide Slot Guidelines - WSG 
  • Organization of the semi-annual IATA Slot Conference
  • Liaison with government agencies on the interpretation of local rules that affect the slot allocation process
  • Participation in relevant Industry Committees/Workgroups related to Scheduling Standards and Processes, Daylight Saving Time (DST) and Minimum Connecting Time (MCT).

The Scheduling Process  

The scheduling process governs the allocation and exchange of slots at congested airports worldwide, on a fair, transparent and non-discriminatory basis. In consultation with the airline and airport coordinator communities, IATA manages and publishes the industry standards in the Worldwide Slot Guidelines - WSG intended to provide guidance on managing the allocation of slots at airports. 

The Slot Conference 

The semi-annual Slot Conference - SC allows arilnes and coordinators to meet face-to-face to review their slot portfolio and finalize their future scheules.

Committees/Workgroups

Worldwide Airport Slots is involved with various committees and workgroups that meet on a regular basis to improve Scheduling Standards.
