Safety
Safety is the promise the aviation industry makes to the billions of people who fly annually. IATA is committed to a consistent improvement in safety. The Six-point Safety Program reflects the strategic direction adopted by IATA to ensure that safety goals are met.
Security & Facilitation
Security and facilitation go hand in hand. While Security's objective is to prevent acts of unlawful interference, Facilitation focuses on expediting the movement of people and goods across borders (customs, immigration controls). One of IATA's Security Priorities this year is the development of a Checkpoint of the Future.
Security is often mistaken for safety, but it deals with different issues, i.e. voluntary harmful acts against civil aviation or using civil aviation. This includes not only terrorism, but also hijackings and unruly passenger incidents.
