Safety at the OPC
Safety, the number one priority of the industry, was a major topic discussed at the Operations Committee (OPC) in Montreal, 7-8 October. The accident rate, demonstrating figures until the third quarter of this year, shows similar numbers compared to last year.

It was noted that the overall Western-bulit Jet Hull Loss rates of IATA members were well below the rest of the industry.
The Six-point Safety strategy includes SMS, flight safety, infrastructure safety, data management and auditing. Next year, maintenance will be added to the mix.

Get Insight into the World's Largest Aviation Incident Database
Managing safety in the air transport industry is of paramount importance and now IATA's STEADES Query Tool provides an easy way to obtain the data. The Query Tool provides access and interaction with the world's largest database of incident reports and extracts structured data for analysis as required.
Normally, this query tool is only available to airlines that contribute data and participate in the STEADES programme. However, until 30 November 2008, IATA is offering a trial of the STEADES Query Tool. Some benefits include:
- Obtain data to specific safety concerns
- Save time when performing safety analysis
- Anticipate operational requirements at specific airports
- Compare your airline with others
- Determine whether particular safety concerns are shared by others
