Flight Bag
October 2009

Welcome to the October issue of the Flight Bag!

This edition includes detailed results from the Operations Committee (OPC) 20, held in Moscow on 13-14 October and important updates on IATA's initiatives.

Environment Issues

A major topic covered in this issue is the environment. IATA and the industry are preparing for the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Copenhagen on 7-18 December. A number of important meetings took place, including the High-Level Meeting on International Aviation and Climate Change (HLM) and a discussion with  the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

H1N1 Pandemic Planning

IATA and other industry associations continue to work with the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to refine on-airport disease mitigation measures to be used during a serious pandemic. Topics range from public messaging campaigns through the media and in-flight entertainment systems to sanitary measures and signage in airports.

IATA and the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)

IATA met with the FAA to discuss areas of mutual interest and how to best support each other.
