Infrastructure at the OPC

Infrastructure savings until 1 October 2009 is 2.7 million tonnes of CO2 or US $437 million.

The following chart shown at the OPC 20 includes success stories and global pending issues since 2005:

Implementation of Performance Based Navigation (PBN)

BPN is critical to deliver safety, efficiency and environmental benefits. IATA will propose new business models to expedite implementation.

Avionics Survey

Accurate data on airline equipage, capabilities and near term upgrades is essential for developing realistic and credible proposals for airspace improvements.

IATA worked with airlines, ICAO and Air Navigation Service Providers to capture current and future communication, navigation and surveillance capabilities of airline fleets. The data from this survey will also cross reference these capabilities to regional operations. The survey results will allow airspace planners to custom tailor operational improvements that will match existing fleet capabilities.

This survey was distributed to airlines late August.  Initial results should be ready by year end, depending on the data received from airlines.

World Airports Group (WAG)

The second meeting of the World Airports Group was held in Geneva on 23-24 September 2009 with some 20 airline representatives were in attendance, which was an increase from the previous year and a reflection of the airport development section’s decision to go back to back in a coordinated approach with the Airport & ATC Charges regional review meetings. The link between the two disciplines is now firmly established with all recognizing the need to discuss, prioritize and agree to the level of capital expenditure prior to entering into negotiations on airport charges.
Four regions (Africa, Europe, Middle East/North Africa and Asia/Pacific) were covered in detail – with a focus on Latin America due to the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics.
Airlines in attendance requested a significant increase in the number of airports requiring engagement, especially in the European and Asia Pacific regions.
