An airline’s organisation is composed of a “system of systems” that are integrated and intra-supportive. Management teams must continuously adjust to dynamic financial, competitive, and operational pressures that characterise the complex aviation environment. They are held responsible to provide products and services with the highest possible degree of safety.
The integrated-Airline Management System refers to the integration of all management systems within an airline:
- Safety Management System (SMS)
- Security Management System (SEMS)
- Quality Management System (QMS)
- Enterprise Risk Management System (ERM)
- Supplier Management System (SUMS)
- Environmental Safety Management System (ESMS)
The purpose of an Integrated-Airline Management System is to:
- Define corporate governance
- Establish independent safety, security, and quality management systems
- Identify additional management systems that support the delivery of products and services by the enterprise.
IATA has developed the Integrated-Airline Management System Toolkit, which provides airlines with the fundamental guidelines to implement management systems for each operational function, as required by IOSA Standards and recommended practices.
IATA also offers SMS training courses for both airlines and regulators.
