Baggage mishandling cut by 50% at Vienna International Airport

Austrian Airlines have recently participated in the Baggage Improvement Program (BIP) for the second time by conducting a gap closure diagnosis in Vienna International Airport (VIE). This exercise was not only intended to validate the performance improvements but also an opportunity for Austrian Airlines to leverage once again the benefits of BIP and reduce baggage mishandling.

SITA has released its eighth annual Baggage Report, showing a 45.1% decrease in  baggage mishandling. See the full report here (pdf).

Ancillaries take off in Africa

As part of the ongoing effort to implement EMDs (Electronic Miscellaneous Documents) globally, a one day joint IATA-AFRAA (African Airlines Association) EMD workshop was organized in Nairobi on 28 March 2012.

The industry is on its way to 100 % e-AWB by end of 2014

IATA’s board set the target of 100 % e-AWB (electronic air waybill) by end of 2014, in countries where e-AWB is legally accepted.

In the short term, the target is to achieve 15% penetration by the end of 2012.
To support the industry achieving this ambitious target, IATA Cargo is organizing a campaign in the coming months. 

e-Freight case studies:  illustrating key benefits across the supply chain

IATA has released the first in a series of case studies in order to share with the overall cargo community the tangible benefits that can be achieved with e-freight.
