e-AWB Advisory Group
The e-AWB Advisory Group (EAWBAG) has been reactivated end of 2010 to facilitate the adoption of e-AWB and support the industry to meet the 2014 target (100% e-AWB on MC99 trade-lanes) set by the Cargo Committee.
Background
This group was first established in 2008 as a Task Force to work on the electronic Air Waybill and draft the Recommended Practice 1670 (RP1670) that allows the replacement of the paper Master Air Waybill by the e-AWB.
RP1670 was endorsed by the Cargo Services Conference in 2010 and then it was piloted by several airlines and freight forwarders. End of September 2010, the Cargo Committee recognized the benefits that the global adoption of e-AWB will bring to airlines and their customers and partners and set-up targets and deadlines to push for the global e-AWB roll out.
Objectives
The primary objectives of EAWBAG are as follows:
- Provide recommendations on the enhancement of the existing IATA standard recommended practice RP1670 and Cargo-EDI messages that will facilitate the adoption of the e-AWB;
- Provide regular updates to the Cargo Committee as well as recommendations on revised e-AWB approach and targets as needed.
EAWBAG Actions
- Enhance the current Recommended Practice (RP1670)
- Recommend a solution to identify the e-AWB shipments
- Support the industry to achieve 100% e-AWB by 2014 and any interim targets
- Follow-up on e-AWB progress
- Maintain an updated list of import Customs in MC99 and MP4 countries that accept the e-AWB
- Maintain a list of import Customs in non MC99 and non MP4 countries that accept plain paper/laser printed paper AWB
- Coordinate with the other working groups: e-freight Central Action Group, Customs Advisory Group
- Communicate regularly to the Cargo Committee the progress made in influencing Customs
- Develop additional supporting materials as needed
Membership
The EAWBAG is composed by airlines' representatives. Other observers from industry e.g. freight forwarders, ground handlers and IATA Strategic Partners may attend the EAWBAG meetings upon concurrence of the Secretary.
