The Passenger and Airport Data Interchange Standards (PADIS) Board develops and maintains Electronic Data Interchange and XML message standards for passenger travel and airport-related passenger service activities. PADIS is governed by the Passenger Services Conference Resolution 783.
The following business areas are covered by PADIS EDIFACT message standards or XML schemas:
- Reservations and electronic ticketing, including electronic miscellaneous documents
- Airport resource management and airport handling, including baggage handling
-
Data exchange between airlines and governments concerning passenger data
-
Data exchange between airlines and airports for operational and passenger data (including XML schemas to exchange data on bar coded boarding pass)
-
Slot management and scheduling messages based on the SSIM
In addition, PADIS maintains IATA’s data communication standards such as Type X. Those standards are found in IATA Systems Communications and Reference (SCR) volumes.
Development of standards
For each area, airlines and other interested parties form a working group of subject matter experts and document their initial needs in a Business Requirements Document (BRD). This document is then passed on to the Technical Assessment Group (TAG) for translation in EDIFACT messages and XML schemas. Working group then proceeds to build an implementation guide published along the message standard to facilitate implementation.
Working groups meet on a regular basis and collaborate electronically via the PADIS extranet site. IATA airline members and IATA Strategic Partners can access the site using the link on this page. Companies and organizations wishing to participate in PADIS activities are invited to join the IATA Strategic Partnership program.
Publication of standards
Standards adopted by PADIS are being released twice a year. EDIFACT Message Standard Document and associated implementation guides are available from the IATA Online store here:
PADIS Code Set Directory for EDIFACT and XML, PNRGOV Implementation guide, all XML schemas and associated implementation guides as well as SCR Volumes are available for download on the PADIS Extranet site.
