Paperless Supply Chain Project

IATA's Paperless Supply Chain (Paperless SC) is a project in aircraft maintenance that started in June 2011. The vision is to explore potential efficiencies in the aircraft operations of the supply chain.

Efficient airline supply chains

The project's mission is to increase the efficiency of airline supply chain by making it paperless. There are several areas of focus:

  • Auto-ID / RFID / 2D / CMB component  tags development and implementation:

- For inventory management
  - As alternative means of compliance during maintenance tasks performance
  - For aircraft configuration control

  • Enhanced IT solutions, search engines, web-based tools in airline maintenance supply chain
  • Methodologies for supply chain and maintenance cost management
  • Standardization of aircraft maintenance agreements
  • Aircraft leasing task force (Standardizing aircraft operation dry lease agreement, maintenance reserves calculation guidelines, delivery/redelivery conditions, etc.).

Supply Chain Think Tank

The Paperless SC core working group is the Supply Chain Think Tank. It's mission is to elaborate on the vision of the airline supply chain of the future and define the most relevant focal areas for improvements and innovations. An additional responsibility is to ensure that certain data and information transfers are standardized among the industry stakeholders. The Think Tank includes representatives from airlines, original equipment manufacturers, leaders in MRO IT industry, regulators, aircraft part suppliers and freight companies. It meets regularly throughout the year as well as holds bi-annual meetings.

Paperless SC also produces assessments for individual airlines on request and helps to improve the processes on a business-case basis.

Within the framework of IATA’s Training and Development Institute (ITDI), Paperless SC also develops a basic IATA Supply Chain course for airlines.

Membership

Membership to the Paperless SC is open to all IATA members. Participants in IATA’s Strategic Partnership Program can also attend the functions of the project upon request. For more information, please contact us.
