Security Work Groups

The Security Group (SEG) assists the Operations Committee (OPC) in all matters relating to the optimisation of security measures to enable safe, secure and efficient air transport.

It makes recommendations to combat acts of unlawful interference against civil aviation, and to aid in the discovery and prevention of crimes against the airline industry.

The Security Group meets twice yearly and its membership consists of 10 elected heads of airline security. List of Members (pdf)

Information on the activities of the Security Group and documentation on the issues addressed by IATA can be found on the IATA Security Work Group website.  Please not that because of their sensitive nature, some documents are only available on the private pages.

Access to the Security Work Group private section is restricted to security professionals of IATA Member Airlines, Non-IATA Carriers Participating in the IATA Security Programme and IATA Strategic Partnership Members (Security).

OPC MANPADS Task Force

The threat of Man-Portable Air Defense Systems (MANPADS) has been highlighted recently following attacks against civil aviation. To access the OPC MANPADS Task Force page you will need to access the private site of the Security information page. Due to the sensitive nature of the issue, access can only be granted to Members of the TF and Heads of Security of Member Airlines.

Aircraft Security

Since 1 November 2003, aircraft involved in international flights (some exception exists) are required to be equipped with a reinforced cockpit door. IATA continues to work in close relationship with government regulators and aircraft manufacturers to find globally accepted solutions to protect the integrity of the cockpit and monitor the cabin area. In order to access the aircraft security site, users will need to access the private page of the security information site.
