Middle East and North Africa (MENA)

MENA's IATA regional headquarters is there to sustain the extraordinary dynamism of MENA by responding to the needs of its member airlines, accredited travel and cargo agents as well as industry partners. The office provides essential services such as BSP and CASS support, in addition to promoting IATA's priorities for 2012. Below are MENA's priorities , the regional office will be working towards achieving these throughout the year.

 Industry Priorities

Safety 

  • Promote the SMS provisions under the new IOSA Standards Manual, ISM edition 3. 
  • Promote IATA safety databases and information sharing forums available through Global Safety Information Center (GSIC).Increase GSPs involvement in the ISAGO program.   

Infrastructure

    • Support regional transition to the new ICAO Flight Plan format among member airlines in accordance with IATA's position

Environment

  • Support Fuel Efficiency Gap Analysis (FEGA) initiatives and their implementation.
  • Assist States and Air Navigation Service Providers in implementation of Performance Based Navigation (PBN) 
  • Protect industry interests in the UNFCCC, including securing placement of IATA employees and industry representatives on national delegations at COP17

Simplifying the Business

  • Support the implementation of a complete suite of Fast Travel projects in one airport in MENA making it one of the first 5 airpots in the world implementing the complete set of Fast Travel initiatives 
  • In line with IATA e-services project, help MENA region to achieve Airlines EMD (Electronic Miscellaneous Document) capability and live GDSs in IATA BSPs 
  • Support airports and airlines in MENA in imporving the baggage handling through the implementation of Baggage Improvement Program (BIP)
  • Ensure e-freight market penetration on live trade lanes in countries where e-freight is implemented and support the implementation of e-freight initiatives where feasible 

Financial

  • Achieve savings/cost reduction in industry taxes and user charges.

IDFS Operations

  • Full ISS (Industry Settlement Systems) migration of Africa and MENA operation into one shared service centre in Amman.
  • Initiate new ISS operations in Africa and Middle East.
  • Complete automation of ISS operations including communication platforms
  • Deploy quality program in Africa and Middle East (AME) and prepare for certification of operations in 2012.

 Aviation Solutions

  • Provide wide range of products and services that support various functions in the industry.

Regulatory

  • Support and promote pilot training initiative including multi-crew pilot licensing and evidence based training.
