The International Air Transport Association (IATA) welcomes the ratification of the Montreal Convention 1999 (MC99). With MC99, passengers get better protection in the event of accidents and delays. At the same time, MC99 facilitates the use of electronic air waybills, which will speed up the processing of air freight.

Not all states in Asia-Pacific have ratified MC99. IATA urges Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam to urgently ratify MC99 so as to offer better protection to their citizens and improve the competitiveness of their air freight markets.
