The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has appointed Matteo Zanarini as Area Manager, South West Pacific. As Area Manager, Zanarini will be responsible for delivering IATA’s initiatives in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.

Zanarini brings over 30 years of experience in the aviation industry. He began his career in freight forwarding and has held managerial positions with Alitalia in Australia, Asia and Europe. He joined IATA in 2009 as Passenger Services Manager, South West Pacific. Prior to his appointment as Area Manager, Zanarini was Aviation Solutions Manager, South West Pacific.

Zanarini succeeds Ian Lorigan, who has taken up the role of Director, Global Delivery Center, based in IATA’s Asia Pacific Regional Office in Singapore.

“The aviation potential in the South West Pacific is tremendous. This potential will materialize if the right conditions, including infrastructure capacity and the regulatory environment, are in place. I look forward to having Matteo on my leadership team to support the industry’s sustainable growth in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands,” said Conrad Clifford, IATA’s Regional Vice President, Asia-Pacific.

“And I thank Ian for his contributions as Area Manager for the last nine years. I look forward to working with him in his capacity as Director of our Global Delivery Center in Singapore,” said Clifford.

“I look forward to working in partnership with the airlines, agent community, governments and aviation stakeholders in the South West Pacific to maximize the social and economic benefits that air transport can bring,” said Zanarini, who is based in IATA’s office in Sydney.
