Around 1.5 billion passengers travelled by air within the APEC region in 2014, of which 281 million travelers flew on international services between the APEC economies. The APEC Tourism Working Group (TWG) in coordination with the Transportation Working Group (TPTWG) initiated a project to improve air connectivity with a view to promoting people-to-people connectivity.
To implement the project, IATA Consulting is engaged by the APEC Secretariat on behalf of the APEC TWG to embark on a study to identify potential improvements in air connectivity. Based on aviation market demand, IATA Consulting will identify market opportunities within the APEC region. The study will contain recommendations on possible solutions to APEC to strengthen connectivity among the economies and provide guidance to APEC to actively pursue air service development opportunities. This study is expected to conclude by December 2015.
